Kangxi Famille Verte Plaque (KWC121523) |
---|
c. 1890 – 1900 Guangxu Period, Qing Dynasty Porcelain with overglaze ruby and famille verte enamels Height: 21.7 cm Width (at widest point): 13.5 cm From a Toronto, Canada estate A rare and unusual late Qing archaistic ‘hu’ vase, covered with a thick and bubbly ruby glaze, and decorated with cartouches of famille verte silkworms wiggling amongst mulberry leaves. The design and painting workmanship of this piece is quite charming and amusing. The ruby-red ground, also called ‘yanzhi hong’ by collectors of Chinese ceramics, is a highly desirable glaze known for its intense hues, the difficulty of its firing, and rarity. The base is marked with an apocryphal six-character Kangxi mark in archaistic zhuanti form. Condition: There is a very shallow chip to the mouth rim that’s been ground smooth. The ruby glaze has some surface wear and scratches due to age. The white glaze in the interior has some kiln flaws: bubble bursts, 2 tiny crazing ‘lines’ to the glaze (which does NOT affect the porcelain body). There are also some age-related wear and scratches to the famille verte enamels. Overall, this vase is in good antique condition, with no hairlines and no restorations. |
