19th century Late Qing Dynasty Porcelain with peachbloom glaze Height: 36.7 cm Width (at widest point): 18.5 cm From a New York City metropolitan area estate [SOLD] A lovely 19th century late Qing monochrome vase, glazed in a mottled red-green color typically called “peachbloom” or “jiangdou hong” by scholars and collectors. Invented during the Kangxi period, peachbloom glaze utilizes a copper base in its formula to achieve the mysterious spots of green erupting from the glaze like moss. The glaze of this particular vase is quite rich and fantastic, full of luminous texture and visual complexity. The base features an unglazed biscuit ‘ring’ with concentric circles from the potter’s wheel; this look is quite typical for the late Qing period. Condition: Basically perfect antique condition. There is some slight roughness to the base, but this is original to how the piece was made. Due to age, there is some expected surface wear to the glaze. |
